This time I’m going to write a short review about the game “Monster Loves You!”, a choose-your-own-adventure style game of building up a unique monster. The game is light-hearted and tries to get you thinking with monster logic as you grow. The game leads up to a moment-of-truth with humans that can go several ways given your decisions.
You start at the moment of your birth in the spawning pool. As a forming monster your options are mostly limited to growing and not being consumed by other spawnlings. As you grow older, however, you are given a board of scenarios to choose from, in which your actions contribute to your qualities as a monster. Your Ferocity, Honesty, Bravery, Cleverness, Kindness and eventually Reputation will contribute to just how much of an impact you will make on monsterkind.
This game gets repetitive quickly, but it breaks its monotony with some cute stories describing your actions. It’s also light enough to pick up for a few minutes and then put down. The gameplay is straightforward and works how it’s supposed to, and the music is soothing, never getting on your nerves. However, due to how many endings there are you will likely spread out getting the different endings over a long period of time, as you will exhaust the options within a few consecutive playthroughs.
Given the simplicity of the game, it’s well worth picking up if you want a quick diversion from time to time. However, if you’re the type to gather endings or achievements as fast as you can, you probably won’t enjoy this game very much. Overall, I would say “Monster Loves You!” accomplishes what it sets out to be. Whether that is what you’re looking for depends completely on taste. Check it out on Steam if you’d like a new casual game.
